Introduction to Lizards
There are approximately 3,000 species of lizards throughout the world, with the majority found in warm, dry or tropical climates. Like all reptiles, lizards are ectotherms and must rely on external heat sources like the sun to regulate their body temperature. Some species lay eggs and others give birth to live young.
Each lizard species has specific needs to survive in captivity, including housing with appropriate heat, light and humidity, plus the right food. The most common lizards sold in pet stores include Common Green Anoles, Iguanas, Bearded Dragons, Leopard Geckos, and various species of Skinks and Swifts.
